carpet dirtHere are a few tips to help keep that carpet dirt outside and off your carpet and rugs:

ADD A WELCOME MAT
The larger the mat the better. Something nice and thick in front of the door. If that doesn’t work, you might try a mat that says BUZZ OFF!

TRY A ‘NO SHOES’ POLICY
It can be tough to enforce, but once family members get used to slipping off their shoes at the door, it can make a huge difference with carpet dirt.

USE JUST ONE DOOR
Especially during bad weather or dusty days, you only have one area to keep clean.

No matter what you do, you’ll still need to vacuum regularly. Have your carpet professionally cleaned at least once or twice each year!

Adds Beauty and Style

You can choose from many thousands of rugs and carpet styles and colors. That means your ultimate choice will reflect how you want to personalize your living space. Rugs and carpet can be a neutral foundation, or they can be a focal point with vibrant colors and stronger bolder patterns and textures.

“Studies have shown that people with asthma and allergy problems have seen symptoms improve with rugs and carpet.”

Improves Indoor Air Quality

New carpet is the lowest VOC-emitting flooring choice available. Rugs and carpet actually act as passive air filters, trapping dust, pollen and other particles and removing them from the breathing zone. Studies have shown that people with asthma and allergy problems have seen symptoms improve.

Provides Warmth and Comfort

Carpet provides actual thermal resistance, or R-value. In colder climates or seasons, it retains warm air longer, an energy conservation benefit. Rugs and carpet also provide a comfortable place to sit, play or work and they give a room an overall warmer feeling.

Softens Slips and Falls

Rugs and carpet are ideal for cushioning our footsteps, reducing slips and falls and minimizing injuries when falls do occur. They provide safety protection for the whole family, but especially for toddlers and older individuals.

Reduces Noise

Big screen TVs, speaker phones, computers and modern sound systems make our homes noisy places. Rugs and carpets help absorb these sounds. Adding a cushion pad beneath your carpet reduces noise even further. They also work as a sound barrier between floors by helping to block sound transmission to rooms below. And carpet on stairs help mask the sound of constant foot traffic.

Crumbs on the kitchen counter, dust on the TV, gunk in the bathroom sink — We can’t stand our houses when they are a mess. But the thought of spending an entire day cleaning it from top to bottom sends me running to the sofa for a nap. After all, in a week, it’s just going to get dirty again.

Home Cleaning

Here are three simple home cleaning steps to help curb those nagging feelings:

Set cleaning to auto or leave it to the professionals

Make friends with the latest effort-saving cleaning tools and products, such as robotic vacuum cleaners and floor washers, and self-cleaning cat boxes, which rake cat poop into cartridges that you replace every week or so. An automatic shower cleaner spiffs up your shower at the touch of a button, and self-cleaning toilet bowl cleaners scrub your toilet every time you flush. We also suggest calling in a professional to help with your cleaning needs, like your rugs, carpets, upholstery and tile & grout.

Sweat the small stuff & zap the dirt fast

Clean drips as soon as they occur, before they dry or soak into surfaces or carpet & rugs. When you spill on your range top or carpet, quickly run a damp sponge over the (hot) surface – before it stains. Dust often so it doesn’t have a chance to build up and harden in corners and crevices.

Pick a focus room & clean in short bursts

Spend another 10 minutes cleaning one room. Clean a different room every day, so eventually your whole house gets attention. Look at the top, middle and bottom of the room, and pretend you’re seeing it for the first time. Tackle the tasks you don’t always get to, like removing cobwebs and dusting plants.

Spring CleaningWhich words do you associate with spring cleaning? Stress and Hard work? A dread-filled ordeal? Corporal Punishment???!! or just ‘Eww…Yuck’! Well, here we are to re-program your beliefs about spring cleaning the house by showing you how easy it can be to transform your home into the spotless abode you desire in just a few simple steps. The main idea is to ‘work smart’ and not necessarily as hard you may think… Let’s find out how.

1. Get the family involved: don’t go solo

The worse part about spring cleaning is the thought of taking the monumental responsibility onto oneself. This will not only drain but also demotivate you even before you begin. The right way to handle the task is by getting the family involved and making it a group responsibility. In this way, maintaining the cleanliness and clutter-free level will be easier apart from the actual clearing and cleaning process being less stressful and quicker for all.

2. Delegate work areas to each family member

The best way to share the work load of spring cleaning, and not get into each other’s way, is by assigning a specific work area to each family member. Delegate a room such as the kitchen, living room etc., home components such as all the windows, shelves etc. or then processes like scrubbing, vacuuming your carpet & rugs and others depending on which works best.

3. Turn on the music and establish a reward to keep everyone in high spirits

Set the mood for a productive family day ahead by playing some peppy tunes in the background. Sing along as you throw, store, scrub, scour, wash and wipe together. Have a sense of humor about it! Don’t take the job too seriously but be assertive enough to set high cleanliness standards: no hoarding! A good way to make sure the kids cover their work areas well, is by offering motivational awards to those who do a good job. Everyone learns, bonds and enjoys themselves while the house gets a good make over.

4. De-clutter unwanted items and have cleaning aides handy

Prior to actual Cleaning Day, plan the actual spring cleaning or de-cluttering session. Getting unwanted items out of the way will make the cleansing process ten times easier. You can donate discarded clothes, toys and even furniture to the Salvation Army and other donation drives. Then stock up on the correct cleaning equipment – brushes, mops, sponges, squeegees, brooms, buckets, vacuum cleaners, spray bottles and the right liquids and detergents. The right tools are essential for convenience and ease of creating a spick and span space.

Holidays can make even the most rational person wish the man in the red suit had a magic potion with our name on it. With all the stress of cooking, preparation, and gifting, the last thing you want is to tackle is the mess left. If no one thought to give you a gift card for maid service, here are a few ways to handle post-holiday cleaning:

From spilled beverages to plates in the sink, it’s best to deal with messes as you go. While it might seem exhausting to clean as you go, it’s a lot less stressful than facing a mountain of dishes and no clean forks. Spills are less likely to become set-in stains if handled immediately.

Post-Holiday Cleaning

However, there are always at least a few rug or carpet stains that magically appear after the holidays! You obviously want to treat any stains as soon as possible, but sometimes you don’t always notice them right away.

Like the carpets, upholstery can take a beating during the holidays from all of the use and abuse. The earlier you can treat the stains the better, so don’t leave this one for too long!

You will save yourself a lot of energy if you break down the tasks into manageable chunks. Remove the stress of post-holiday cleaning by deciding what must be done now and what can wait. Cleaning your kitchen must be done now, while making your guest bed with freshly laundered sheets can probably wait.

And although, we do try to keep up with the basic bathroom cleaning {especially in the guest bathrooms!} over the holidays, they will definitely be in need of a good deep cleaning afterwards. Scrub the tile in your shower and bath, wipe down the mirrors and the sink, wash the towels, mop the floors, and clean the toilet.

But, seriously. Holiday gatherings are all about togetherness and enjoyment of the good times. So, the last tip is this: ask for the help of a professional! Treat yourself and your family to a clean house and a relaxed environment when they next get home. That leaves time for you to get your not-so-New-Years-resolutions set into motion.
